2014 Spring Cleanup by Friends of the South End

Saturday: Choose a spot and bring a neighbor!

Date: Saturday, May 3rd 

Time: 9:30 a.m. – 12 noon

Refreshments: Cider, coffee and donuts delivered by Sandy Dika

Lunch: 12:30 @ 130 Gates Street ~ home of Martin Hanssmann & Nancy Hinsey


1. Haven School Playground (Greeter: Hilary O’Neil)

Jobs to work on – Rake and bag leaves (place inside brick walls across from school)

-    Pick up trash and branches

-    Sweep sidewalk around area

-  Clean around cement parking blocks

Needs: shovels, rakes, brooms


2. Pleasant Street Cemetery (Greeters: Bob Pollard; Alan Gordon; Linda McVay)

Jobs to work on – Rake and bag leaves (place in first MWH parking space close to Pleasant St.)

- Pick up trash and branches

- Remove “greenery” from pots

- Trim a bit around the entrance and clean entrance area

Needs: Rakes, brooms, shovels, clippers, dandelion diggers


3. Haven Park (Greeters: Gail Sanders; Preb Leonardi; Tom Hindle)

Jobs to work on – Rake and bag leaves (place on Livermore St. near Pleasant St.)

-    Rake loose leaves around front area (disregard acorns)

-   Fertilize daylilies

-     Mulch around 4 hemlocks, front bushes, and monument

-     Pick up trash and branches

-     Clean, weed, mulch around daylilies around statue

-     Trim flowering quince at corner of Edwards and Pleasant streets

-     Sweep gravel from sidewalk

Needs: Rakes, brooms, wheelbarrows, shovels, clippers, weeding tools, fertilizer, dandelion diggers


4. Point of Graves Cemetery (Greeters: Kath Boduck; Joe Capobianco; Dan Desrochers)

Jobs to work on – Rake and bag leaves (place inside wall on Mechanic Street)

- Fertilize plantings

- Mulch around plantings

Needs: Rakes, fertilizer, shovels, wheelbarrows, dandelion diggers
